AP courses provide an accelerated and in-depth learning experience, differing from non-AP classes in textbook selection, topic coverage, and the level of effort required. There are 38 AP courses offered globally by nearly 14,000 high schools.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>\u003Cstrong>Enrollment and Prerequisites\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Students should meet prerequisites and complete any required summer assignments before enrolling in AP classes. Level changes for AP courses can be requested until the 19th school day of the semester without a Withdraw\u002FFail (W\u002FF) penalty. After this period, only students with extenuating circumstances, such as hospitalization, may change AP classes without penalty.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>\u003Cstrong>AP Exam Scores\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Rampart AP students are encouraged to take the AP Exams in May. Exams include multiple-choice and free-response (essay) questions, last about three hours, and must be taken on the scheduled test day.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Scores are reported on a 5-point scale: 5 = Extremely Well Qualified, 4 = Well Qualified, 3 = Qualified, 2 = Possibly Qualified, and 1 = No Recommendation.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>\u003Cstrong>College Credit and Placement\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Depending on their scores, students may earn college credit, advanced placement, or both. For information on how AP credits are applied, students should consult the college’s Director of Admissions, catalog, or website.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>\u003Cstrong>Alternative Assessments and Fees\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Students who do not take the AP exam will receive an alternative assessment of similar rigor. The exam fee is set annually by College Board, approximately $115, with potential annual increases. Financial assistance is available. Students will register and pay through Infinite Campus or the Rampart bookkeeping office.
