AP EXAMS FAQ COVID-19

(Updated 5/8/2020)

AP Exams are being offered starting May 11–22. If a student is unable to test during this window, makeup dates are available June 1–5. All students are encouraged to test during the primary May 11–22 window just in case there are technical difficulties. Students do not need to communicate with the AP Program the date students intend to test; students will just sign in for the exam on the date they are scheduled to test following the information provided by the College Board AP Program.  College Board’s AP Online Exam Schedule (All exams taken within Colorado are starting according to the “Mountain Time” schedule)

Getting Ready for the Exams Please complete all steps that are described in the AP Get Ready Guide provided by College Board.

5 Steps to Get Ready
  • NOW: Try the Exam Demo
  • NOW: Complete Exam Day Checklist (this should be completed in advance for all students’ exams)
  • NOW: Confirm Email Address and have your AP ID number
  • 2 DAYS BEFORE EXAM: Locate E-Ticket
  • EXAM DAY: Check-In 30 Minutes Early
Read the essential AP Resource Guide to make sure you have what you need for each exam.

Student Exam Accommodations
Students will be able to use their pre-approved accommodations for 2020 AP Exams. This year the way accommodations are provided may be different because the exams are shorter. Please reach out to abbey.graham@asd20.org with any questions.

College
Board 2019-2020 AP Testing FAQ: HERE

Is my student going to be well-prepared to take this new format of the exam?
Yes. Rampart teachers will continue to prepare students to their fullest abilities. The smaller scope of material and the additional time to review works in our favor. While the time frame is shorter, students have been preparing for free-response questions throughout the year.

Who can I contact if my student can’t login to myAP account or is not receiving emails from College Board?
It is important for students to know their myAP account login information and confirm the email attached to the account before the AP Exam test date. College Board will email students a unique link that each student will use to take their exam. If a student cannot access their myAP account or is not receiving emails from College Board, students should call the College Board account help line at 1-866-315-6068.

My student was scheduled to take the AP exam with testing accommodations. Will these accommodations still be provided to my student?
Students who have approved College Board accommodations will still have the opportunity to use their accommodations for the Online AP Exams. Students who are approved for extended time will automatically receive the timing adjustment when they login to the at home exam. More details about other accommodations will be provided by College Board before testing in May.

Technology Considerations
Students must disable the Grammarly browser extension on any device they are using.
Students can access the exam and submit their response using any available device: smartphones, tablets, Chromebooks, (not all AP Exams) or computers, so, when a student clicks to access the exam, the browser that opens should be Chrome™, Firefox® , Safari, or Edge. The exam will not open in other browsers, so students should confirm their default browser is one of these four browsers, which supports their online AP Exams.

If a student accidentally closes their browser or tab, temporarily loses their internet connection, or experiences some other disruption, students will click their e-ticket to rejoin the exam.
Due to the time limits set by College Board students encouraged to follow if they can’t rejoin the exam, lose too much time trying to regain access, or do not see a Your AP Exam is Complete message at the end of the exam, the student can request a makeup test by completing the form at: cb.org/requestmakeup

World Language: AP French and Spanish Language and Culture Exams require a free new dedicated app, called the AP World Languages Exam App (WLEA). Students must use an iOS or Android operated smartphone or tablet. These exams cannot be taken using a Chromebook.

How does my student send AP scores to colleges?
Students should indicate the college, university, or scholarship organization on their My AP account by the June 20 deadline. College Board offers one free score send. If students want to send additional scores go to this link for more information.

Advanced Placement

Taking an Advanced Placement (AP) class provides students an opportunity to experience a college level course, and they can earn college credits with a passing AP exam score.  AP classes offer students rigorous instruction at a national level while requiring students to meet a higher level of responsibility.

AP students are required to read and sign the following contract to ensure they understand and are responsible to:

  • Immerse themselves in rigorous reading (textbooks are college level texts)

  • Engage in work that may include--but is not limited to--independent reading, writing, frequent quizzes and tests, research and projects.

  • Seek help when needed by consulting one's study peer/group, parent, or teacher and attend tutorial sessions when offered.

  • Take the corresponding course exam in May.

Click on the College Board website to learn more about the Advanced Placement Program.
